Summer Saturday Morning

Our Saturday mornings used to be filled with early risers, Disney Channel characters, rec soccer games, pancakes in the shape of Star Wars favorites with chocolate chip eyes, and cups full of the not-so-quietly begged for chocolate milk. For years, the idea of a quiet, simple Saturday morning breakfast date never entered the realm of our reality. It seems that we have evolved into a new reality. A reality where teenage boys cherish their sleep more than time with dad and mom, a reality where if we wake up early and a trip to the local outdoor market seems like a good idea, that's exactly what we do.

On a most recent summer Saturday we found ourselves browsing the booths of the Franklin Farmers Market
taking in the gorgeous labor of our local farms and craftsmen. The fragrance of the handmade soaps and candles, the music, the flowers, the vegetables and fruits all whisper summer in Tennessee.

We ventured to a small coffee shop there at the market and enjoyed a fresh roasted pour over and a Honey, Pistachio, Orange paleo crusher from a family-owned bakery I have heard so much about lately. The sweet souls who own Five Daughters Bakery were so kind. Their goods looked amazing and the donut I chose was absolutely divine. They call them "Paleo Crushers" because they are grain-free, sugar-free, and dairy-free but they are definitely not flavor-free. Even B, the skeptic, was amazed.

It was worth every single sweltering-heat-with-humidity-for-days second for a Saturday morning escape with my husband.
